Welcome to the 7th installment of What a Man Wednesday…highlighting Good Guys Doing Great Stuff!
This week I’d like to meet you Damien b.k.a. “LCD”. Damien was nominated by one of my sweethearts Charisse and I’m glad that she did…his ambition and creativity was refreshing. Representing for the Caribbean Massive, Damien is a man about his business and more importantly about his money. And…yep yep ladies…he’s Single!
Name: Damien Parham b.k.a. LCD
Age/Sign: 28/Pisces
Dot on the Map: Atlanta, Ga (originally from Nassau, Bahamas)
Occupation: Freelance Music Producer/Engineer
Alma Maters: University of Maryland
Relationship Status: Single
DZ: Who is Damien in 10-words or less?
Damien: Passionate musician, heavy grinder.
DZ: Who were/are your male role models/influences?
Damien: Definitely need to go with my father…def a hard working guy. Regardless of how much he had to be away for work, he’d always provided positive reinforcement and support. He helped guide me down the right paths. My father taught me that education comes first and that the sky is the limit. He’s def the person that helped shaped me into who I have become.
DZ: Define Manhood.
Damien: My definition of manhood is being responsible for your own actions and taking care of your business. There are a lot of twists and turns in life and you will have your struggles…manhood is being able to overcome them and persevere and hold your own and live up to whatever your responsibilities may be. There are a lot of men out here with kids that call themselves men, but don’t care of their children. You are not a man…if you’re unable to handle your responsibilities and carry yourself with dignity and respect …
DZ: What do women need to know about men?
Damien: Women need to understand that men are tough to understand. On one hand men are incredibly simplistic beings and on the other hand we’re extremely complex. IF there are certain things you’re unsure about ask. Communication is key. You can’t generalize us with what you see or feel, or what your friends say to you. This is one of my pet peeves…don’t assume…ask me so we can discuss.
We’re proud individuals for the most part…there are certain things that we may or may not want to do because we’re proud. The male ego does exist and it something you have to deal with. It makes things a whole lot easier if you understand these things about us.
DZ: Ideal woman?
Damien: My ideal woman is intelligent, educated (not necessarily degree based…she needs an understanding of the world), supportive especially because of the field I work in being so unconventional, and even if you don’t agree with I do…being supportive is very important. She can’t be ignorant, needs a good sense of humor… able to kick back and laugh. And if she can cook …I’m just saying, women don’t cook anymore…and I’m not from a chauvinistic place…you know I can cook for myself….my mother taught me how…yeah the not cooking is wild. (Note: Damien’s mother is Caribbean…that’s a hard act to follow in the cooking arena ladies).
DZ: What lead you down the music path?
Damien: I got into music at 4, playing the piano. The funny thing is after a while I didn’t want to play…it felt like a chore. My father said get on the piano and play and you’ll thank me later. I played the sax…I’ve always had some something music based in my life. In college I started making beats in my spare time and the fire for music got re lit…since then it’s been full speed ahead. It happened around the time I graduated…I was in school studying to do one thing and the next thing my passion changed. All of the previous work I did with music came back. I used to rap, I enjoyed writing…but personality wise I’m nobody’s rapper…I’d rather be in the background more than anything. I really enjoy sitting at the keyboard and making music.
I went from messing around on the computer, to buying my first professional keyboard…now it’s a daily thing. I can create and record, mix everything at home and have CD/radio quality product straight out of my house. The passion for music fueled me learning all of these things on my own. I’ve spent a lot of time reading, sitting in on other studio sessions… trying to learn from other engineers. I then became a studio engineer and that helped me really hone my skills.
DZ: Who are some artists you’ve worked with and who would you like to work with?
Damien: I just finished working with Ice the Villain…he’s based out of DC and he just released a project called The Relationship. The record outlines a typical relationship from beginning to end…chronicles anything you go through….I’ve never seen another rap album like this and he’s has gotten a lot of good responses. I’ve also worked with Kia Shyne’s group The Preps, Raheem DeVaughn, Phil Ade, Lil D. I really would like to work with T.I., and Jeezy in the future, my style fits their flow.
DZ: Where will you be in 5 years?
Damien: In 5 years…I’ll be doing the same thing, but just a whole lot more comfortably. I’ll continue making my music, and working with the artists I want to work with. I enjoy what I want to do. There is nothing I want to change about my life except for being able to do it full time with no worries. I’ll still be working hard doing what I love.
DZ: When the curtain closes, what do you want to be remembered for?
Damien: I want to be remembered for my music, on a more personal note I want to be remembered for being a genuine individual…what you see is what you get. I want to be in a position where I’m able to give back. I’d love to be able to go back to Bahamas and set up a non-profit to help with poverty. I want to be a humanitarian…I think it’s everybody’s responsibility to help shape the world if you’re in a position to do that. Hopefully I’ll be in a position to use my name, and my money to help other people. .
DZ: Boxer/briefs:
Damien: Boxers because…I’m a boxer dude…I don’t like to be confined by everything…it’s like a perfect microcosm of my life I don’t like to be confined in anything
Bisou Damien!!
